Is my partner being unfaithful?

On Behalf of | Mar 10, 2019 | Divorce, Firm News

Infidelity is a leading cause of divorce for many couples in Ohio. Even the suspicion of cheating can negatively impact a marriage, which is why so many couples want answers when they believe they recognize the signs. While each person is different, Psychology Today explains some of the common signs of infidelity so you can make the best decision for you and your family.

Deflection

Your suspicions may cause you to broach the topic of infidelity with your partner. In this case, it’s quite common for the guilty party to use deflection. He or she may accuse you of lacking trust and claim that any problems in the marriage are caused by your negative approach. It’s also common for a person to quickly change to the topic or avoid the conversation altogether. Deflection is most notable when it’s accompanied by other signs of cheating.

Changes in daily routines

Of course, changes in scheduling do happen. With cheating spouses, daily routines may change drastically. There may be a sudden need to work overtime when there never was before. Business trips may also suddenly pop up, and you may find your spouse experiencing car trouble and other hang-ups on a more frequent basis. Also, look for unexplained expenses. This money could be going towards dinners, gifts, or costs for hotels.

Discomfort from friends and family

It’s a sad fact that family and friends often know about infidelity before spouses and this may alter their behavior in a significant way. For example, people might avoid you altogether or appear uncomfortable in your presence. They may also avoid talking about your spouse or your relationship out of fear of letting information slip. Many people don’t want to get involved in a couple’s personal issues, which can lead to some pretty bizarre behavior.
